The download link will download a .zip file containing the source files. The .hex file ( used by the S/W upgrade process ) is also present; you do not need to build the software yourself.
Just download the version you want and unzip the file onto your PC. Run the CW2LINK program and select the Advanced, Upgrade Unit S/W option. The program will give instructions on how to go through the software upgrade.
The more recent releases ( especially from v1.4 onwards ) will have 4 different .hex files, depending on which GPS module you are using, and whether you want speed limit warnings in mile/hour or KM/hour.
The file readme.txt in each release .zip file will explain which .hex file you need to use.

The download link will download a .zip file containing the executable program file. Extract it, then copy it over your existing cw2link.exe file.
